Progress in Chicago While in Midst of a Pandemic

A year into the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Chicago’s numbers began to decline and showcasing that everyone is headed in the right direction.

As of March 15, 2021, Chicago’s positivity rate is at it’s lowest percent since the start of the pandemic last March. The vaccines that have been distributed to the city since when it was first administered has helped these new lower number of cases.

Additionally, the United Center opened up as a mass vaccination site on March 9th to help more people get vaccinated. Today the site allows for 6,000 people to get the shot per day. Currently, more than five million people in the state of Illinois have gotten vaccinated.

With this much effective data, the city lifted restriction in Phase 4 allowing a lot of businesses to resume operations at more capacity. Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced that the Chicago Cubs and White Sox will allow a limited amount of fans to start of the 2021 Major League Baseball season.

The final phase of the pandemic in Chicago is Phase 5, which allows for a complete reopening of the city and business operations. If the this trend continues, “back to normal” can return soon then later.
